Course description

Our Patient Care in Mammography course is designed to help mammography technologists better prepare, educate, and communicate and interact with patients before, during, and after a mammogram. As mammograms are the gold standard in diagnosing breast cancer, patients coming for a mammogram need to experience care, compassion, reassurance, professionalism, education, and often counseling. A mammography technologist often has to provide all of these in addition to performing the mammogram.
This course covers the fundamentals and nuances of providing quality patient care in throughout a mammography examination. It addresses the importance of preparing patients for a mammogram and the role that good communication with the technologist plays in ensuring compliance and optimal imaging. For example, effective and caring communication can relax the patient and thereby reduce the chance of suboptimal imaging of the pectoral muscles. The course will also tackle around 20 common myths about breast cancer, and provide the realities, so that you can help your patients better understand real risks and the benefits of screening.
Patient Care in Mammography is appropriate for novice mammography technologists, veteran mammo techs, and technologists cross-training into the modality. It is also suitable for students in radiology programs studying mammography to deepen and enhance their learning.
